The cast of the Depot Theatre’s AN ACT OF GOD (L-R): Lori Funk, Suzanne Kimball, Antony Watkins.

Westport, NY – The Depot Theatre is pleased to announce the cast for its main stage production of AN ACT OF GOD, with performances from July 19-August 4.

The one-act play by David Javerbaum, who has written for many comedians, including Jon Stewart, began as a “series of tweets” and a satirical book before being written as a play. The 2015 Broadway show starred Jim Parsons (of THE BIG BANG THEORY), and was later played by Sean Hayes (Jack on NBC’s WILL & GRACE).

“Audiences have asked us to choose material that is more exciting and edgy,” said Kenney Green, the Depot Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director. “This play is just that; it includes some content meant for mature audiences, but has a lighthearted, humanitarian feel that is respectful of the context.”

Green cast Lori Funk in the title role for the production. “Lori is an excellent comedienne,” said Green. “I have seen AN ACT OF GOD two times on Broadway, and after witnessing Lori’s talent in the Depot’s 2018 production of THE 39 STEPS, I knew that no one else could play the role of God but her!”

Lori Funk is thrilled to be spending her second season at The Depot. “I’ve clearly got some Big Shoes to fill,” said Funk. “But I know that, with Kenney, John, and the fantastic folks at The Depot, (plus a touch of divine inspiration), this production should make you laugh, think, and maybe even walk away with a few new perspectives on the Guy – or Gal, in this case – upstairs.”

Funk’s experience includes: Off Broadway: THREE ON A COUCH (SoHo Playhouse), LOOKING FOR THE PONY (McGinn Cazale), THIRST (First Light at HERE), STIFF (Barrow Group). Other: SPRING AWAKENING, BABY WITH THE BATHWATER, OUR COUNTRY’S GOOD, VAMPIRE LESBIANS OF SODOM, THE 39 STEPS, ALL MY SONS. TV: LAW & ORDER, SVU, ONION NEWS, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Film: FOUREYES, DIRTY MOONIE, ACTING HER AGE, THE PRICE, EDEN COURT.  Web Series: HUMAN TELEGRAPHS. Her one-woman show, TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE, was last seen at Don’t Tell Mama in NYC. She has been a proud Actors’ Equity Association member since 1998.

The role of the angel Michael will be played by Suzanne Kimball. Kimball’s credits include:  A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Majestic Theater), SMELL OF THE KILL (Chenango River Theatre), BECKY SHAW (Centenary Stage), THE NORMAN CONQUESTS, BOEING BOEING  (Winnipesaukee Playhouse), ANGEL STREET (Cider Mill Playhouse), PLAY BY PLAY: UNCHAINED (Stageworks/Hudson), AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY (White Plains Performing Arts Center), THE LADIES MAN (Cortland Repertory Theatre), and KING LEAR (Gallery Players).

The role of the angel Gabriel will be played by Antony Watkins. Antony has returned to the Depot for his fourth year as Technical Director, and third year performing. Audiences might remember him as the drummer for The TAFFETAS, and ALWAYS… PATSY CLINE. This year he is very excited to be part of the cast for AN ACT OF GOD, and to be the Technical Director once again. Antony is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association, and is heading into his final year at The Actors Studio Drama School where he is studying for an MFA in acting.

The production is directed by Broadway veteran John Treacy Egan. He has appeared in MY FAIR LADY, CASA VALENTINA, NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT, SISTER ACT, THE LITTLE MERMAID, THE PRODUCERS, JEKYLL & HYDE, and BYE BYE BIRDIE.
