The Depot Theatre Academy is an education and outreach program for artists ages 8 and older, led by theatre professionals from the only professional Equity theatre in the Adirondack Park.

2024 Academy Programming
The Depot Theatre Academy education and outreach program has a NEW expanded curriculum for 2024!
This year, young artists ages 13 and older participate in the same process as professional artists, including competitive auditions and demanding rehearsals, culminating in performances of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE to open the season on the Depot Theatre’s main stage June 7-9.

PROGRAM
Students will be introduced to theatre performance with a staged adaptation of the classic children’s
book “Giraffes Can’t Dance” by Giles Andreae, adapted by Amy Fitts.
DATES July 15- 19, 2024
PROGRAM DAY SCHEDULE Rehearsals July 15-July 19, Monday through Friday from 8:30am-12:00 noon,
at the Boquet Valley Central School (BVCS) Mountainview Campus Auditorium, Elizabethtown NY.
Auditions There are no auditions for this program. Capacity is limited and will be first come first served, with
no registrations accepted after June 30th.

ACADEMY SUMMER PROGRAM
JULY 15 – AUGUST 1, 2024
Three-week Academy summer program for ages 8-18, culminating in three performances of SHREK THE MUSICAL JR. on August 2-4.
LOCATION Whallonsburg Grange Hall, 1610 NYS Route 22, Whallonsburg, NY
AUDITIONS June 29, 2024, beginning at 10am at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall
NOTE REGARDING AUDITIONS Audition attendance is not required but is highly encouraged. Any actor that wants to be considered for a speaking/singing role who cannot make auditions must submit a video singing a song of their choice (a capella is fine) to academy@depottheatre.org.
PROGRAM DAY SCHEDULE Rehearsals July 15-August 1, Monday through Fridays 9:30am – 3pm
PERFORMANCE DATES Friday, August 2 at 7pm, and Saturday August 3 at 7pm, and Sunday August 4
at 2pm
Registration includes
- Workshops led by Equity professionals in acting, voice, and dance, culminating in performances of this year’s production, Shrek Jr.
- 2 tickets to each performance of Shrek, Jr..
- Live musical accompaniment for rehearsals and performances.
- Opportunities to interact with and learn from visiting professional theatre personnel.
The registration fee is $350 per participant. For families with more than one child participating in the program,
the fee for the additional participants is $250/participant.
