HOUSE MANAGER

Overview: The house manager is responsible for the smooth operation of the house (both the lobby and audience seating area) during the run of the show. House manager welcomes the public to the theatre and oversees their safety and well-being before, during, and immediately after the show. They answer questions, listen to patrons’ compliments and concerns, and make audience members feel welcome.

  • The services of the Employee shall be performed prior to, during, and post-performances of all main stage productions at the Depot Theatre.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Solicit/Schedule/Supervise/Train volunteers
    • Act as usher when no volunteer is available
    • Assist with preparing/selling concessions as needed
    • Assist with raffle as needed
    • Provide superior customer service
    • Overseeing lobby/theatre cleanliness
  • Employee will provide services under the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Employee will contribute to maintaining the work and storage areas in a safe, orderly, and professional fashion.
  • Employee will execute any reasonable care and duties required by the Theatre in pursuit of its mission.

BOX OFFICE ASSISTANT 

Type: Part-time, seasonal

Duration: Summer (May-August)

Overview: The primary responsibility of this position is to provide patrons with a positive experience at The Depot Theatre. This experience is created by aiding patrons with accurate performance information and assisting them in purchasing and picking up tickets to performances. This position is expected to work cohesively with all employees of The Depot Theatre. 

Responsibilities:   

  • Learn to operate Audienceview ticketing software: sell tickets, season passes, and gift certificates to patrons, reserve seats, exchange tickets (update reservations), process donations, etc.
  • Assist with raffle and concessions as needed
  • Provide superior customer service in person, via phone, email, and mail
  • Use copier when needed: print playbills, make copies, scan, etc.
  • Filing, data entry, daily financial reconciliation reports, and other office tasks
  • Act as a point of reference for all inquiries concerning the activities of the Depot Theatre, including: performances and any other events or programs
  • Act as a point of reference for Amtrak passengers awaiting train
  • Be an effective and flexible member of the Box Office team and be available for work during afternoons, evenings, and weekends; on performance days box office staff must stay through a show’s intermission to process all daily earnings and complete reporting
  • Assist with miscellaneous box office projects as directed

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Capability of communicating positively with patrons to establish their needs efficiently and courteously; must also be comfortable asking patrons for donations and marketing information
  • Handle cash responsibly and accurately 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must be well organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in customer service environment is preferable  
  • Must be computer literate and be able to learn new software (ticketing system)
  • Able to work independently

The Depot Theatre is a non-profit, professional theatre located in a historic, functioning 1876 train station in Westport, N.Y., and operates under an agreement with Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of Professional Actors and Stage Managers in the United States.
