Cast Announced for Depot Theatre’s ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE

Westport, NY — The Depot Theatre is pleased to announce the cast for Always…Patsy Cline, the first main stage production of its 40th Anniversary Season. The role of Patsy Cline will be played by Bethany Gwen Perkins, and Depot alum Kathryn Markey returns to play Louise.

Bethany Perkins makes her Depot Theatre debut as Patsy in the 2018 production of Always…Patsy Cline.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be making my Depot Theatre debut,” said Perkins. “It is an honor and a joy to take part in sharing the work and life of the incomparable Patsy Cline!” Perkins’ NYC credits include Bernarda AlbaThe Light in the Piazza and new works by Ryan Scott Oliver, John Bucchino and Greg Pliska/Charles Morey.

Markey is pleased to be back at the Depot in an acting role. “I’m delighted to be onstage at the Depot after directing Pete n Keely and Savin’ Up For Saturday Night in 2014/15,” she said. Markey’s acting credits include Broadway: 3 From Brooklyn Regional: Holidays with The Chalks (Alliance Theatre), MemphisA Christmas Story (Engeman), American Family in 3 Chords (Bay Street), Over The Tavern (Penguin Rep), God of Carnage, Dancing at Lughnasa (Northern Stage), Drowsy Chaperone, Young Frankenstein, & the Brighton Beach trilogy (Saint Michael’s Playhouse) Selected Shorts (NPR), Moonlight & Love Songs (GayfestNYC), Separation (English Theatre of Stockholm.) On-screen: SVU, Law and Order, 99, Trip, Premium Blend, All My Children, Filmic Achievement, DutchWestTV, CollegeHumor, Amateur Hour.

Kathryn Markey will pay Louise Seger in Depot Theatre’s 2018 production of Always…Patsy Cline.

Markey’s directing credits: Pitt Stages, Axelrod PAC, Mason Street Warehouse, Ocean State Theatre, White Plains PAC, Cortland Rep, NL Barn and 14 seasons at Saint Michael’s Playhouse. Kathryn is the resident director of In Your Face New York at St. Ann’s Warehouse and created the satirical country band The Chalks.”

The production will be directed by the Depot Theatre’s own Producing Director Kevin Cochran. Music Direction by Kimberly Weems.

Patsy was created and originally directed by Ted Swindley, and it has been performed at the Depot Theatre two times in its 40-year history. When the Depot asked its audiences which past shows they would like to return for this anniversary year, Patsy was a top contender.

More than a wonderful, song-filled tribute to the legendary country singer, Always is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston who met the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961.

Audiences are sure to sing along with “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Walking After Midnight.” This production of Always…Patsy Cline is dedicated to Craig Johnson, who frequently played the drums at the Depot, including during a previous Patsy production.

The production is sponsored by The Galley Restaurant & Bar at Westport Marina. Patsy performances run June 30 – July 15, with a $20 Preview on June 29. For more information and tickets, call 518.962.4449 or visit depottheatre.org

Always…a dedication

Craig Johnson

The Depot’s 2018 production of Always…Patsy Cline is dedicated to Craig Johnson.

As you might have heard, The Depot Theatre’s 40th Anniversary Season will open with a super fan favorite from the past 39 years, Always…Patsy Cline.

What you might not have heard is that this year, the drumbeat behind Patsy Cline’s famous songs will resonate a little bit deeper than in past years’ productions.

Longtime Depot friend and drummer, Craig Johnson, passed away earlier this year. Craig was the drummer for several Depot productions over the years, including Always…Patsy Cline in 2009, in which the playbill lists the band in that show as “The Bodacious Bobcats Band.”

According to his wife, Tammy, Craig absolutely loved playing on stage at the Depot – it was his favorite gig. She has donated some of Craig’s drums and percussion accessories to the Depot, where they will be lovingly played on stage this year and for seasons to come.

The Depot Theatre’s 2018 production of Always...Patsy Cline is dedicated to our friend Craig Johnson. His on-stage presence will be missed, but the spirit of his talent, dedication and gentle kindness will remain forever present.

Depot Theatre Announces Fan Favorites for 40th Season

Three hits from the past 39 years are set to headline the Depot Theatre’s 40th Anniversary Season!

The main stage season, which includes a tribute to a legendary country singer, a fast-paced whodunit, and a sassy musical celebration of a jazz great, was selected by the Depot’s Producing Director, Kevin Cochran, whose choices were inspired by an informal survey of audiences last year.

“We’re excited to present what will be both a high-quality and crowd-pleasing lineup,” said Cochran. “These shows are a perfect backdrop to a season-long celebration of the Depot’s longevity and significance as part of the robust Adirondack arts community.”

The season opens with Always…Patsy Cline, from June 30 – July 15, with a $20 Preview on June 29. The popular musical comes complete with down home country humor, heartfelt emotion, and even some audience participation. More than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically young in 1963, the show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Musical performances include many of Patsy’s unforgettable hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams,” and “Walking After Midnight.”

The season ramps up with The 39 Steps, from July 21 – August 5, with a $20 Preview on July 20. The hilarious play is a combination of a Hitchcock masterpiece and a juicy spy novel, with a dash of Monty Python added in. This two-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning show is packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters (played by a cast of four), an onstage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance!

The final production of the main stage season is a revival of Ain’t Misbehavin’, which will be on stage from August 11-26, with a $20 Preview on August 10. Winner of the 1978 Tony® Award for Best Musical and a well-crafted musical review, audiences will love this celebration of legendary jazz great, Fats Waller, complete with a live band.

“We’re looking forward to a summer full of fan-favorite shows and special events to celebrate this Anniversary Season,” said Kim Rielly, Depot Theatre’s executive director. “Look for upcoming announcements about additional special presentations and be sure to save the date for our 40th Anniversary benefit celebration on June 30!”

Auditions will be held regionally and in New York City in the spring.

Group and single tickets will go on sale in late spring, and season subscriptions will be available for sale online in February at depottheatre.org.
