This past year was filled with excitement and triumphs onstage and off! Now we’re asking you to help ensure 2017 is even better!

Our stage was graced by the top quality, professional artists you expect at the Depot – talented women sang, emoted, and triumphed in Shout!; incredible men made Murder for Two seem like a cast of dozens, the outstanding ensemble of Outside Mullingar transported us to Ireland and Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake loaned us their wonderful Glass Menagerie.

And these shows were only part of the Depot’s success! Behind the scenes we kicked off a major campaign to replace our tired old seats and carpeting, formed a plan to change-out the aging lighting grid, and welcomed a new, year-round Producing Director (since I am he, I shall refrain from self-aggrandizing adjectives.  But seriously, I couldn’t be more pleased and proud to join you in the Depot family)!

You might be tired of hearing the generalization that ticket sales cover only a portion of the expense of producing quality theatre, so I want to put it in black and white: at the Depot, if we had to cover all our expenses with box office revenue, we’d have to raise our ticket price from $30 to $69.76. Yep, read that shocker again.

This is why we have to reach out to you, our Depot family, to help cover this difference between ticket prices and production costs. To stay true to The Depot Theatre’s mission to create the highest quality, professional entertainment possible at an affordable price in order to reach the largest audience possible.

As the Polar Vortex hovers over Westport, I thought that a sneak peek at our 2017 summer season might bring some warmth to you and yours. The season is taking shape and promises to be packed with fun! Shows I’m considering include:
  • A Brief History of Penguins & Promiscuity
The East Coast Premiere of an outrageous new comedy! Victorian literature, Penguin musk, shotguns, fantasy men and French waiters all collide in this racy look at paternity!
  • Souvenir
A funny and touching look at the New York Socialite who thought she could sing, but couldn’t – at all! Her recitals became a sensation in the 1940’s with everyone in on the joke except her (this story was told in a different way in the recent movie starring Meryl Streep).
  • The Taffetas
This four woman girl group, desperately trying to get on The Ed Sullivan Show, takes us on a musical journey through the fabulous fifties including Mr. Sandman, Johnny Angel, Dedicated to the One I Love, Where the Boys Are, and many more!
  • New Playwright Reading Series
Our play reading series this year will feature NEW plays still under development (and the playwrights will be there to take part in our discussion!).

So please, if you can, make a contribution today – of any amount. Help us keep the Adirondacks’ premiere professional theatre, The Depot, alive with stirring music, hysterical comedy, and indelible characters! Your generosity makes the magic possible. (And all contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law!)
