The Depot Theatre Academy is an education and outreach program for artists ages 5 and older, led by theatre professionals from the oldest professional Equity theatre in the Adirondack Park.

2026 Academy Programming

2026 Senior Program

The Depot Theatre Academy Senior program will once again open the theatre’s main stage season, this time with a production of the musical HADESTOWN: TEEN EDITION, with eight performances on the Depot Theatre stage during the weekends of June 4-7 and June 11-14, 2026. Tickets $25. Tickets available April 16.

Auditions for HADESTOWN: TEEN EDITION will be held at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall on Saturday, April 4th, from 10am – 1pm.

There is no cost for participation. Interested participants should fill out the audition form here by March 27.

This program is for young artists ages 13 and older enrolled in school, inclusive of homeschool and college. It will be led by a team of experienced professional teaching artists, including Gigi Mason, Depot Theatre’s Academy Director, live musical direction and accompaniment by music and drama educator Kim Weems, co-direction and choreography by Jackie Robertin, and assistance from theatre educator and actor Amy Fitts.

Academy Summer Program

The Depot Academy offers a three-week Junior program for artists ages 8-18. The summer program will be held July 27-August 13, culminating in three performances of SEUSSICAL JR on August 14-16 at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall.

AUDITIONS: Date to be announced! At the Whallonsburg Grange Hall, 1610 NYS Route 22, Whallonsburg, NY.

NOTE REGARDING AUDITIONS: Audition attendance is not required but is highly encouraged. Any actor that wants to be considered for a speaking/singing role who cannot make auditions must submit a video singing a song of their choice (a capella is fine) to gmason@depottheatre.org. Video submissions must be submitted by the day before auditions.

PERFORMANCE DATES: Friday, August 14 at 7pm, Saturday, August 15 at 7pm, and Sunday, August 16 at 2pm.

Registration includes
  • Workshops led by professionals in acting, voice, and dance, culminating in performances of this year’s production.
  • 2 tickets to each summer Academy program performance.
  • Live musical accompaniment for rehearsals and performances.
  • Opportunities to interact with and learn from visiting professional theatre personnel.
SCHOLARSHIPS

The registration fee may be waived in cases of financial hardship. To be considered for a scholarship, please contact Gigi

Introduction to Theatre Program

PARTICIPANT AGES: Children ages 5-8 who are new to the theatre

The Depot Academy will once again offer a program for new, younger performers this summer. Lovingly dubbed “Welcome to Who-ville,” this opportunity for 5-8 year olds new to theatre will be a two-week experience from August 3-August 13th at the Whallonsburg Grange, culminating with performing with the Junior program as Whos in SEUSSICAL JR on August 14-16.
