If I could wish the supporters of the Depot Theatre anything, it would be that they could enjoy the type of beautiful weather we had this past weekend, whenever they are here with us in Westport. I had some lucky friends visit over Memorial Day Weekend (our first out-of-town guests!) who really got to see Westport and the gorgoeus North Country at its best. Nothing's worse than when you want your dog to do the cool new trick you've taught her so you can show off for your pals, but instead of rolling over, she just stares at you like you're crazy. And this past weekend, Westport (& Essex & Lake Placid) came through and performed all of the pretty-weather-tricks it has up its sleeve!
Not only was the weather a hit for my tourists but it was for the Depot Theatre Rummage Sale as well. It was such a fun event, with people from all over the area coming by for their deals. I personally took home some necessary items for the home (you know, like a John Wayne shellacked wooden clock), as did my guests.
What was even more fun was that I got to show off the Depot Theatre for the first time. It was exciting to see my friends (all who have had careers in the theatre) look at the space and lobby and stage management booth - and for all of us to imagine what the shows and audience will look like. They all agreed that the Depot Theatre has a special personality all its own. I can't wait for them to come back up to actually see a show - which is coming soon! Opening night for CARELESS LOVE is on June 22 and we'll have actors and staff members arriving in the next few weeks. I am so looking forward to seeing the work our casts and creative staff do and to share it with all of you. Tickets are available online now, and our box office will open full-time next week.
Of course, another way to see the shows, is by volunteering. This Saturday, we'll be having our first Volunteer Fair! Please stop by the theatre anytime between 11am & 1pm to sign up for volunteer opportunities and to find out what perks you can enjoy as a Depot Theatre volunteer. Plus, I'm making some yummy foodstuffs out of pre-season appreciation!
