I feel like every one of these posts goes on and on about how much we’ve got going on at the Depot Theatre this summer – but the truth is that it just won’t stop! We’ve got a little something planned for everyone, whatever your tastes. I’m going to just have to turn my whole office wall into a calendar at this point in order to not only keep track of all of our Depot activities but to make sure I squeeze some time in to enjoy all of the cool things happening in and around Westport.
Today is a special day as we have two shows opening! Yes – two shows opening on the same day! At 5pm today and tomorrow we’ve got our Teen Theatre Program’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park at Ballard Park and tonight at 8pm is the first performance of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” (sponsored by Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union with support from the Charles Wood Foundation) followed by our superfun Opening Night Reception in the lobby. These receptions are a real highlight of the summer and allow our audience and cast and crew to celebrate the great work we’ve got up on our historic stage. “The Marvelous Wonderettes” showcases the powerhouse voices of four young women who will entertain you with their energy and talent – “The Marvelous Wonderettes” runs until August 19.
Next week there’s the Artists’ Reception for our 1st Annual Juried Art Show on Tuesday, August 7 from 5-7pm with wine tastings provided by Amazing Grace Vineyard and Winery; on Wednesday, August 8 is the Tonight Only performance of “I Am A Cuban Sandwich”; Thursday, August 9 and Friday, August 10 sees our Apprentice Program participants in their Radio Mystery Show; on Tuesday, August 14 there’s more BINGO at the Westport Heritage House from 6 – 8pm; Wednesday, August 15 and Thursday, August 16 are back-to-back Tonight Only shows: Sam Balzac’s "Anti-Student Loan Cabaret" on 8/15 and Beth Glover’s "Mississippi Voodoo" on 8/16 (these are both sure to sell out so call early or purchase online for those tickets!).
In the midst of all of that, we’d love for you to shine your dancing shoes and get your best dress pressed to join us for our Gala Under The Stars at the Westport Country Club on Saturday, August 11 starting at 6pm. It’ll be a ‘50s and ‘60s inspired night of dinner, dancing, and our amazing live and silent auction. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 962-4449. It’s going to be a special night - and is one I have been looking forward to all summer long.
