by Steve Canny & John Nicholson
Part Monty Python, part Marx Brothers, (ala our 2010 production of THE
39 STEPS), three actors tackle 16 characters - from a dwarf to a fan-twirling
Spanish Señorita, backed by a rolling doorway, a stick of furniture, and
a trunk of costumes.
Kent Burnham* (Rory O’Rourke) is very excited to back at The Depot, having appeared in Almost, Maine in 2009. Recent credits include Wittenberg, Orphans, Awake and Sing, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Tempest, Of Mice and Men, and Night of the Iguana.
WESTPORT, NY - The Depot Theatre is proud to present the outrageously funny one-man comedy smash hit “Fully Committed” – a theatrical tour de force that pits one versatile actor against 90 pages of text. The play takes us into the basement of a posh Manhattan restaurant, where Sam Peliczowski (played ably by Matthew Gellin) works as the reservationist. In a relentlessly funny performance lasting 70 minutes, Gellin also portrays a grab-bag of would-be diners, including a wealthy socialite, a gangster, a Japanese tourist, and supermodel Naomi Campbell's frenzied assistant.
Director and actor Beth Glover appeared in the first production of Wicked City at the Mason Street Warehouse in Michigan, and brought the fast-pace spoof of the detective genre to our attention. Beth kindly agreed to direct the Depot Theatre production, and below are her notes about the show.
WESTPORT, NY (August 1, 2011) – The Depot Theatre continues its thirty-third summer of live theatre in an 1876 train station, presenting a regional premiere by the award-winning musical comedy team of Chad Beguelin and Matthew Sklar, known for their hit Broadway adaptations of “Elf” and “The Wedding Singer.” The Depot will present “Wicked City,” with book and lyrics by Beguelin and music by Sklar. “Wicked City” is a send-up of the great film noir classics of the 1940s and 50s.
BETH GLOVER* (Ruth) is delighted to be back at the Depot with Chris Jones and the fine company of Living Together. Last year Beth was Rona in Spelling Bee. The year before, Ruth in Round and Round the Garden and she directed Heroes. It's been 14 years since she was Adelaide in Guys & Dolls!! Wow!! Thank you Shami for all of the wonderful opportunities.
