Westport, N.Y. – With everything from a rockin’ look at the 60’s to a Tennessee Williams classic; from a romantic Irish comedy to a musical murder mystery tour de force, the Depot Theatre is pleased to announce its 2016 main stage lineup.

Shout! — The Mod Musical, a smashing blend of swinging British pop songs, eye-popping fashions and psychedelic dances from the 60’s opens the season July 1st.

Next up is Outside Mullingar.  Reminding us it’s never too late to take a chance on love, this laugh-filled Irish romantic comedy provides the perfect balance of heart and drama one expects from Pulitzer prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley (author of Doubt and Moonstruck).

Rounding out the season is the hit off-Broadway musical Murder for Two.  This tuneful whodunit tour de force is a highly theatrical duet loaded with killer laughs.

“This is a very exciting inaugural season for me at the Depot Theatre,” says new Producing Director Kevin Cochran. “From music to mystery to romance, there’s something that’s sure to delight everyone.”

As a special add-on to the season, the Depot Theatre presents a one-week engagement of Pendragon Theatre’s production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. This Great American play catapulted Williams to fame and is as haunting and treasured as memory itself.

The popular reading series Depot Dangereuse returns with four plays for discriminating playgoers seeking cutting-edge drama and comedy. The plays chosen are recent On or Off-Broadway critical hits, read by local and New York City-based talent.

Season subscriptions will be available for purchase in March. Single tickets go on sale to the public on June 1. For more information, updates and program announcements, visit depottheatre.org or contact the box office at 518.962.4449.

ABOUT THE SEASON

SHOUT! – THE MOD MUSICAL

Co-created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein

July 1-17

SHOUT! travels in time from 1960 to 1970 chronicling the dawning liberation of women. With its heart on its sleeve (and its tongue planted firmly in its cheek), SHOUT! features terrific new arrangements of such classic tunes as “To Sir With Love,” “Downtown,” “Son of a Preacher Man” and “Goldfinger.”

OUTSIDE MULLINGAR

By John Patrick Shanley

July 22-August 7

Anthony and Rosemary are lovelorn farmers in rural Ireland who haven’t got a clue when it comes to love. These hopeless singletons need to overcome a bitter land feud, familial rivalries and their own romantic fears to find happiness. Full of John Patrick Shanley’s trademark dark humor, this tenderhearted portrait reminds us it’s never too late to take a chance on love.

MURDER FOR TWO

Book & Music by Joe Kinosian

Book & Lyrics by Kellen Blair

August 12-28

A zany blend of classic musical comedy and madcap mystery, this tuneful whodunit is a highly theatrical duet loaded with killer laughs. In this hilarious 90-minute show, one performer plays the detective and the second actor plays all 12 suspects. And they both play the piano! It’s a witty and winking homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries.
